Hans Dautel studied biology at the Freie Universität Berlin. In his diploma and doctoral theses he investigated the physiology and ecology of ticks. As postdoc he developed a novel tick repellent at the Freie Universität Berlin in an IHK funded project in collaboration with AnalytiCon AG. He has also performed electrophysiological studies on the olfactory sensilla of ticks at the Université de Neuchâtel (Switzerland). Since 2001 he has worked as a freelance biologist, and founded his own business under the name of Insect Services and since 2004 he is one of the two CEOs of IS Insect Services GmbH. Furthermore, in 2001 he was approved as a pest control operator (PCO). He has developed specific tick bioassays and was involved in the development of a system for tick (Ixodes ricinus) activity prediction. Since 2009 he is one of the two managers of tick-radar GmbH.
Hans Dautel is responsible for the insecticide division of IS Insect Services GmbH, the performance of efficacy studies on ectoparasites (ticks, mites, lice etc.) and questions relating to pest control. He also collaborates with other partners on the BLE funded joint research project Fit Bee, which aims to develop an effective biological control treatment against the Varroa mite.
